Frankincense in Aromatherapy - Trees, Pearls, and Essential Oil

Since farther back than anyone can remember Frankincense has been used for medicinal and religious purposes. Early Egyptians used Frankincense as part of their embalming process, the Greeks used it as an antidote to hemlock poisoning, and the Chinese used it for trading as well as for internal and external purposes. Today, Frankincense is used mostly for aroma therapeutics but many have also recognized it as an anti inflammatory, antiseptic, and a diuretic. Some medical research has been done showing a relationship between the possibility of Frankincense and the treatment of osteoarthritis and may have some anti cancer fighting agents.

Frankincense has also been shown to help with anxiety, disappointment, hysteria, emotional fatigue, nervousness, congestion, anti inflammatory, immune deficiency, insomnia, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, aphrodisiac, emollient, indigestion, carminative, antiseptic, expectorant, sedative, tonic, and anti tumor.

Frankincense has been around since ancient times and is even mentioned in the Bible. The Jews offered up Frankincense in ceremonies. It seems that different regions use Frankincense for different reasons; the Chinese use Frankincense to treat leprosy, Egyptians used Frankincense to pain women's eyelids, hair remover, and perfume. The main contribution of Frankincense is for respiratory distress and although it was once taken internally but no longer is but now is rather used as more of incense and when it is infused with vapors it can help laryngitis.

Frankincense comes from a tree called the Boswellia Thurifera which can be found in Africa and Arabia. To get Frankincense, they split the trunk of the tree and allow the resin to harden before it is harvested. Frankincense is commonly used in the practice of Wicca which is a religion that practices witchcraft. They use Frankincense for perfumes and believe that it corresponds well with certain days such as Sundays and Wednesdays. What Wicca's call a solar spell is affiliated with Frankincense in the form of oil or herbs are used for spells and formulas that are related to solar issues.

These spells would be used for such purposes as physical energy, protection, success, and putting an end to specific legal issues. When you refer to Frankincense in the form of essential oils it is very expensive and is usually diluted with other oils or jojoba oil. These combinations are also used by the Wicca's when casting spells. Some people prefer to substitute Rosemary for Frankincense.

Ironically enough never forget that Frankincense was one of the beautiful gifts that were brought to baby Jesus on the night of his birth by one of the three wise men. This is also used to increase menstrual flow, to treat syphilis, for unsightly scars and stretch marks, and breast cysts. Further it is used to treat acne, boils, and skin infections as well. Frankincense is one herb that is not edible and is not known for use in any recipe contrary to those who believe that Frankincense is used in Indian cuisine. It is not known to be used in any cuisine at all but it is extremely helpful for the practice of aromatherapy.

Frankincense in Aromatherapy - Trees, Pearls, and Essential Oil

The Mysterious Frankincense

Used for many thousands of years, the Frankincense tree has perhaps the greatest association with spiritualpractice of any plant on earth. In most of the great ancient cultures, including the Egyptian, Babylonian, Persian, Hebrew, Greek and Roman civilizations, it has played a role inreligious and domestic life. Frankincense has been sought after by kings and valued as highly as gold. Morerecently, the essential oil is gaining popularity with spiritual seekers and natural healers alike. What isso special about this tree that its 'pearls' were given as a gift at the birth of one of history's most reveredprophets?

The Hardy Tree and its Tears

The Frankincense tree, or Olibanum, upon first glance, may seem rather unremarkable. It appears as agiant shrub, with many knurled branches topped with abundant slender leaves and occasionally, small white flowers.A native to northern Africa, it looks like it belongs in the desert, growing in some of the world'sharshest conditions. But it is not the tree itself, but rather its sap that has such profound lore surroundingit. Whenthe tree's bark is pierced with a knife (known traditionally as a 'Mingaf'), a milky-white oleoresin is exuded- thought the tree is not harmed. The resin forms droplets known as 'tears' or 'pearls', which harden intothe orange-brown gum known itself as Frankincense. The English name of this natural incense is derivedfrom the medieval French 'franc',meaning 'pure' or 'free', and from the Latin 'incensium', meaning 'to smoke'.

History's Most Popular Incense

For more than 5000 years, the hardened resin has been burned in temples throughout Egypt, China andIndia; the Catholic church continues to use it today during Mass. It is one of the four main ingredientsin Jewish ceremonial incense, forming an important part of the Sabbath day offerings. The smoke of Frankincense(as with other ritual incense) is thought to carry prayers to heaven upon it's smoke. It is also said todeepen the breath and still the mind, making it useful for meditation and yogic practice. Theincense may have health benefits as well, producing a highly antiseptic smoke, keeping churches and churchgoersfree from disease.

According to ancient documents, the great Baal temple of Babylon consumed 2 and a half tons of Frankincensea year. The Frankincense trade was of immense importance in ancient times, peaking about 2000 years ago.Caravans grew to as many as 2 to 3 thousand camels in size. Cities grew up along the trade routes, and heavytaxes and fees for protection, lodging and camel fodder raised the cost of the resin considerably, so muchso that it was valued as much as gold. The wealth involved inspired Alexander the Great to plot to control theregion, though his death happened to precede the invasion.

Health Benefits

Frankincense resin is thought to have a bounty of health properties - it was an ingredient in a rejuvenateface mask in ancient Egypt (it was also charred and used as the classic heavy eyeliner seen in much ancientEgyptian art), and at one time was "used to treat every conceivable ill to man". In ayurvedic medicine itis known as salaiguggul, used for centuries to treat many conditions, including arthritis. Modern science has isolated the activecompounds found to have anti-arthritic properties. Called boswellic acids, these components inhibit theinflammatory process, improve blood supply and prevent further cartilage reduction.

Frankincense Essential Oil

Modern natural medicine and aromatherapy have taken to the use of the essential oil of Frankincense. The oil, havinga warm, woody, sweet aroma with a hint of citrus, is steam or CO2 distilled from the resin. It is used for respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, catarrh and asthma; for wrinkles, wounds and dryskin, and in cases of rheumatism, cystitis and leukorrea.

The most important effect of the essential oil may be on the nervous system. Regarded as an antidepressant, the aroma can both relax and revitalize, and can help in cases of nervous tension and exhaustion. Frankincenseoil contains sesquiterpenes, which stimulate the limbic system, the hypothalamus, the pineal and the pituitaryglands. The oil is now being researched for it's ability to increase human growth hormone production. Further,it is considered to strengthen the immune system, which may in-fact occur as a result of it's uplifting properties.

Frankincense essential oil can be used in a manner similar to burning of the incense in spiritual practice.Warming in a candle lamp or direct application to the temples and third eye will quiet the mind, deepen thebreath, and promote meditative stillness. It is often blended with Sandalwood, Myrrh and Cedarwood for suchuses, and the single-pointed concentration it invokes is thought to allow the spirit to soar.

Experimenting with Frankincense

Frankincense resin is widely available at reasonable costs. Most is wildcrafted, being extracted fromtrees growing in the deserts of northeast Africa - thankfully, the resource is abundant, as the treeseasily survive harvesting of the pearls. The small chunks of resin can simply be lit by themselves ina dish or similar container, and allowed to smolder and release their smoke. Frankincense is also availablein prepared incense sticks and other incense preparations. In the form of your choosing, simply lightand allow some quiet time to experience the deep aroma.

With the essential oil, a diffuser or warming lamp can be used to disperse the aroma throughout a space. The oil is also found in aromatherapy candles, where it is released from the heated oil beneath the burningwick. Frankincense oil can be applied directly to the forehead (it is non-irritating or sensitizing)where you can both capture the aroma and absorb the oil directly. Again, take a moment to sit quietlyto perceive any effects.

The wonderful gift of the Frankincense tree is available in many ways, and has come highly recommendedfor many thousands of years. Try adding a little Frankincense to your life, and see what the mystery is all about!

Top 12 Health Benefits of Oregano

If someone says Oregano, it is likely that you will think in terms of cuisine. You would be right as most people do think of Oregano is sauces and so forth. However, there are actual medicinal properties to Oregano as well. Oregano makes a luscious cup of savory tea that works well for gas, indigestion, bloating, coughs, urinary problems, bronchial problems, headaches, and swollen glands and to induce and regulate a woman's menstrual cycle. Others swear that is can cure fevers, diarrhea, vomiting, and same jaundice.

In the capsule form the leaves are dried and then crushed and placed into the empty capsule shell. Further, even others use the dried leaves by crushing them and adding just enough water to create a paste like substance and use it for a cream to apply for arthritis, itchy skin, sore muscles, and swelling. For a relaxing and soothing bath use Oregano leaves in the bath water. Finally, some people make Oregano oil and claim it helps rid toothaches.

In Jamaica people burn Oregano scented incense to ward off coughs and other respiratory distresses. Oregano has been used in ancient Greece and many other places across the globe where people have found a different use for Oregano besides cooking. Oregano is a perennial herb that is relative to the mint family and it is a very important culinary herb that is used in a lot of Greek and Italian cuisines. For cooking purposes it is the leaves that are used and while some like nothing but a fresh Oregano sprig, most will agree that the dried Oregano is much more flavorful.

Especially in Italian cooking you will notice a distinct relationship between the uses of Oregano in combination with Basil. The two always seem to create the perfect marriage especially in a tomato sauce. Oregano is also used on many vegetable dishes as well as a seasoning on various meats. The Greeks would never consider cooking with Oregano in their pantry. The famous Greek salad boasts its flavor of Oregano. No one could imagine eating a piece of pizza without a taste of Oregano added to it.

Oregano is commonly mistaken for Marjoram as the plants look very similar. Outside of the kitchen Marjoram and Oregano are best friends and do a lot together. The pair has quite plentiful properties in the areas of antioxidants and antibacterial. Together they are not only a great combination for flavoring food but also for preserving it too. Because both of their oils are perfumery they are placed in many different soaps and lotions. They are also used in combination for many potpourris and home décor.

There is no denying that Oregano has been around since ancient times both in and out of the kitchen. It had many medicinal properties then and it still does now. It was used in the kitchen and it is still used there now so those from ancient times started a tradition that is still followed to this day. Oregano's uniqueness is fully utilized in many different ways and will be for years to come.

Note: This remedy is not for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

5. Kills Intestinal Parasites

Intestinal parasites are unwanted inhabitants of the gastrointestinal system that can seriously increase the risk for various diseases. To kill these harmful parasites, dried oregano is a good natural option because it is extremely volatile and antiparasitic.

Also, oregano oil contains two powerful antimicrobial agents known as thymol and carvacrol. These substances have shown to be very effective in treating intestinal parasites.

To treat intestinal parasites, add two or three drops of oregano oil to water, along with some freshly squeezed lemon juice, and drink it three times a day.

6. Improves Heart Health

This aromatic herb is an excellent source of potassium, an important component of cell and body fluids that helps control rapid heart rate and blood pressure caused by high intake of sodium.

The disease-fighting antioxidants present in oregano are believed to help prevent and repair oxidative stress and heart disease.

Plus, oregano is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation throughout the body and also lower the risk of heart disease. Drink one cup of oregano tea daily to improve your heart health.

7. Eases Asthma Attacks

Oregano is rich in carvacrol, flavonoids and terpenes, all compounds that act as ‘lung-cleansing elements.’ So, oregano will clear the respiratory tract and bronchial tubes, giving relief from asthma attacks.

Another option is to extract the juice from oregano leaves and take one tablespoon of it every hour to relieve asthma and chronic coughs.

8. Stimulates Appetite

A number of studies have shown that oregano helps relax stomach tension, which in turn stimulates appetite.

Simply dilute some oregano oil in water and use it as a hot steam treatment or rub it into your skin to encourage increased appetite.

At the same time, this herb stimulates bile release to facilitate digestion and treats flatulence, indigestion and bloating.

9. Maintains Body Weight
This herb contains no cholesterol and is a rich source of dietary fiber. Adequate fiber intake helps in managing weight, thereby keeping the body fit and reducing the risk of several diseases.

The active component known as carvacrol present in oregano oil is capable of dissolving fat into droplets. Being overweight can cause fat sludge to pile up in your liver, gallbladder, lymph system, and elsewhere in the body. Oregano helps dissolve this buildup, which in turn helps you lose weight.

10. Protects Against Cancer

Oregano is a very good source of fiber that helps bind bile salts and cancer-causing toxins in the colon and remove them from the body. This in turn forces the body to break down cholesterol to make more bile salts, thus lowering high cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of colon cancer.

Also, the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties in oregano are useful in slowing down or preventing the progression of breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Next time you are eating pizza and enjoying the aromatic oregano, also think about its health benefits. Also do not forget to sprinkle a little oregano on your soup, salad or morning smoothie.

11.Protects From Hair Loss

Oregano herb is very good for hair follicles. Consuming dried oregano is very good for the roots of the hair and hair growth. The oil is very effective against dandruff and the herb consumption in dried form or through oil is very good for promoting lustrous healthy hair.

Benefits of Anise - A Natural Fat Burning Food

Discover the incredible weight loss benefits of anise, how to best prepare it and how much you should use to get maximum benefit from anise - one of nature's amazing fat burning foods. Anise, alternately referred to as aniseed and sweet cumin, is categorized as both a vegetable and an herb; it is part of the same family where you would find fennel, dill, caraway, and cumin. The leaves, seeds, and flowers of anise can be put into foods as well as different medications. The anise plant is tall and has small, feathery green leaves. The plant has white flowers and its fruit, which is frequently referred to as a seed, has the appearance of a ribbed seed. Ripened anise seeds are greenish brown or gray-green in color. Anise tastes somewhat like fennel with a hint of licorice flavor.
Fat Fighting Benefits of Anise
The medicinal qualities of anise have been known to man as far back as the ancient Egyptians and Romans. Anise aids in the body's digestion and fat metabolism. In the Middle East, India, and in parts of Europe, anise is used as a breath freshener. Acting as a mild expectorant, you will often find anise in cough drops and cough medicine. It also has a diuretic effect, allowing the body to eliminate toxins. Anise also acts as an antiseptic or an antispasmodic. The anise plant is home to some volatile oils, like: anethole, methylchavicol and terpenes, furanocumarins, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, rutin, and sterols. Anise is also known to help a person regain equilibrium and reduce stress and tension.
Preparing Foods With Anise
Bakers make very good use of anise seeds, which are used to bake different types of cookies, including biscotti or springerle. You can also use them to bake breads or make sausages. Anise seeds are used to season curry and hoisin, and can also be the foundation for herbal tea. Just as in making any other infusion, to create an herbal tea using anise, pour a cup boiling water over the anise and allow it to sit for 5 minutes. Then strain the liquid and drink it. Once the plant is harvested, the anise seeds should be dried and then kept in a cool, dark location.
Anise seed in usually available in Indian spice stores and in the spice section of many grocery stores. Anise seeds are frequently used in Chinese cooking, where they are used to flavor poultry and to prepare foods that are supposed to simmer for a long time. You will also find anise seed in Chinese soups and bases. Star anise, a spice from China, is frequently used in place of anise. More powerful than regular anise, you only use about 1/3 as much of this spice. Distilled anise oils are used to flavor licorice.
How Much To Use

How much anise seed you require depends on what you are trying to cook. Keep in mind, you really only need a little bit to get the job done. How much you require to make herbal teas depends on which form of anise you use.
The following serves as a rule of thumb:
When using parts of a fresh plant, you will need ¼ cup.
When using dried anise, you need 2 tablespoons.
When using bark or seeds, use a tablespoon of bark, and twice as much seed.

Sky Fruit(MAHOGANY SEEDS) Health Benefits

Sky fruit benefits can be revealed by looking into the health effects of chemical substances that the fruit contains. There are at least three active ingredients of sky fruit that are known to be beneficial for the health: flavonoid, saponin and alkaloids. We will look into the health benefits of the three active ingredients below.

Flavonoid

Flavonoid is a phenolic compound that contains many pigments of the plant. Flavonoid is beneficial for human especially because it is an antioxidant that exterminates free radicals and toxins and improves immune system. The anti-oxidizing properties of the flavonoid content of sky fruit make the fruit effective for fighting various diseases caused directly or indirectly by oxidation, such as LDL buildup, high blood pressure and heart problem. The health benefits of the flavonoid content of sky fruit are briefly explained as follows.

Flavonoid improves cardiovascular system by smoothing blood circulation, clearing blood vessels from clogging cholesterol, and preventing arteriosclerosis plague.

Flavonoid has anti-inflammatory properties that prevent tissue inflammation.

Flavonoid acts as painkiller that numbs pain caused by tissue injury.

Saponin

Saponin is a glucoside that forms soapy foam when mixed with water. It is a natural soap that is derived from plants and known to have hypoglycemic properties when consumed orally. The saponin content of sky fruit thus makes this fruit a potent natural remedy for people with diabetes mellitus. Although saponin is soap, it will not cause poisonous effect to warm-blooded animals when ingested. Based on a study conducted by Smith et al from Ekiti State University, Nigeria, and published in the Journal of Drug Delivery & Therapeutics, the hypoglycemic effect of saponin is even stronger than that of generic antidiabetic drugs, especially metformin. It is thus plausible for us to conclude that using mahogany seeds for diabetes treatment is one of the best natural ways to maintain normal level of sugar in the blood.

In addition to helping diabetic people fight their diabetes, the saponin content of sky fruit also offers the following benefits.

Research published by the National Institutes of Health shows that saponin has anti-allergenic and antihistamine effects, making it a potent remedy for various allergy-related health problems, especially asthma.

Research also shows that saponin can potently overcome erectile dysfunction, especially the one related to diabetes. Experiments on rats have shown that the administration of high dose of saponin to the rats successfully increase their intracavernous pressure ratio. Many herbs that contain saponin, especially ginseng, have been consumed regularly by men to improve their masculinity.

Saponin is an effective cure for blood clotting and insomnia.

Alkaloids

One of the greatest benefits of sky fruit seeds is that it alkalizes the body with its alkaloid content. It has been widely accepted that most illnesses occur when the pH level of the body is too low. Everything that pollutes the body, including toxins and free radicals, are acid in nature. The alkaloid content of sky fruit is thus effective for detoxifying the body and preventing oxidation and its damaging effects. The body will be healthier and fresher if it is alkalized. Alkaline environment is also a bad place for cancerous cells to grow. By consuming sky fruit regularly, the body will be more invulnerable to cancer and its immune system will significantly improve.

By looking into the health benefits of sky fruit’s active ingredients, you should be able to conclude what benefits that you can reap from regular sky fruit consumption. This explanation, however, is still limited to theoretical concept and so far, clues affirming the efficacy of sky fruit are solely based on anecdotal reports. Further researches on the fruit are needed to clarify the beneficial effects of this fruit as well as its side effects, which will be explained below.

Sky Fruit Side Effects

Due to the relative absence of conclusive research on sky fruit and its health effects, sky fruit seed side effects are currently as obscure as its benefits. There is indeed currently no consumer report telling that sky fruit causes side effects; however, based on established scientific theories, there are indeed unwanted effects that may occur if its active flavonoid ingredient is taken excessively.

Dubai Fish Market - WaterFront Market in Dubai - World's Best Market

A bustling hive of activity, the market is best experienced early in the morning when the fishermen have just hauled in their catch. It may not be exactly pretty, but it’s tremendously atmospheric. The smell of freshly caught fish and the sound of loud chatter fill the air as you navigate your way around the white-tiled platforms, which display a wide array of fish and seafood caught locally and from nearby regions, such as Oman and India

Set Fire To The Rain lyrics

I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too weak,
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew.
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true,
And the games you play
You would always win, always win.

[Chorus:]
But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together
Nothing is better

'Cause there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew,
All the things you'd say,
They were never true, never true,
And the games you play
You would always win, always win.

[Chorus:]
But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
When we fell, something died
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time!

Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for you.

[Chorus:]
I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
When we fell, something died
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time, ohhhh!

Oh noooo
Let it burn, oh
Let it burn
Let it burn

Gemilang lyrics

Ku di antara yang satu
Mungkin cahaya dan impianku
Di sini... Gemilang

Lalu ku redah onak duri
Dan lautan api
Kemuncaknya ingin ku tawan
Aku jelajahi

Chorus
Kini gemilang itu
Semakin pasti ku genggam
Gemilang suara keyakinan kian dalam
Gementar harus jangan
Jiwaku harus bertenaga
Mungkin kini
Menjadi realiti

Lalu ku redah onak duri
Dan lautan api
Kemuncaknya ingin ku tawan
Aku jelajahi

Chorus 2x

 Grenade - Bruno Mars

Easy come, easy go
That's just how you live, oh
Take, take, take it all
But you never give
Should've known you was trouble
From the first kiss
Had your eyes wide open
Why were they open?

[Pre-Chorus:]
Gave you all I had
And you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, you did
To give me all your love
Is all I ever asked
Cause what you don't understand
Is

[Chorus:]
I'd catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same

No, no, no, no

Black, black, black and blue
Beat me 'til I'm numb
Tell the devil I said "Hey" when you get back to where you're from
Mad woman, bad woman
That's just what you are
Yeah, you smile in my face then rip the brakes out my car

[Pre-Chorus:]
Gave you all I had
And you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, yes you did
To give me all your love
Is all I ever asked
Cause what you don't understand
Is

[Chorus:]
I'd catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on the blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same

[Bridge:]
If my body was on fire
You would watch me burn down in flames
You said you loved me, you're a liar
Cause you never ever ever did, baby

[Chorus:]
But, darling, I'd still catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on the blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)

I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes I would die for you baby
But you won't do the same

No, you won't do the same
You wouldn't do the same
Ooh, you'd never do the same
Oh, no no no
